3rd Annual Dig Deep Fun Run for Mental Health – “The Starfish Way”

In 2024, the Dig Deep Fun Run for Mental Health – “The Starfish Way” benefits The Jason Garrett Starfish Leadership Academy’s mental health initiatives. We’ve partnered with the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) to develop pilot programs for two Staten Island high schools to address the mental health challenges that our students face. The US Center for Mental Health and Sports (USCMHS) has also joined us to provide programs to help student-athletes and coaches thrive by improving mental health awareness and training.

Dig Deep Fun Run for Digger

The Dig Deep Fun Run was established in June 2022 in honor of our dear friend Coach Steve “Digger” Digregorio who passed away in the fall of 2021. “Digger” coached Jason and his teammates at Princeton before embarking on a distinguished career as a HS coach in NJ. He won the NJ HS Coach of the Year in 2020 at Nutley HS. He was a smart, tough and demanding coach who always brought out the best in his players both on and off the field. He cared deeply about his players. He believed strongly in his players. He made them better players. He made them better men. We were fortunate to have him coach with us at our camp from the Day 1. We are eternally grateful for his impact on all of us and for his friendship. The funds raised from the 1st Annual Dig Deep Fun Run supported the Digregorio family.
